Faith and Friends
When I started law school, I prayed that I would find good friends (literally). It was such a scary feeling to start over at a new place where I didn't know anyone. No college friends, sorority friends, or my husband to rely on. Just me, solo. I prayed so hard and God answered my prayers. Two of these girls I met within three days of law school and the other one came along shortly after. It's truly been a huge blessing to see them grow and change. We have cried together but most of all, we laughed a lot. Law school or even college can be a hard process but it was nice knowing that these girls had my back and would listen to me no matter what. I can call them at 3am and they will answer the phone. We've all called each other in tears before. So today's post is dedicated to not only these beautiful ladies but all of my friends for the endless support and love. I seriously love you all!
Friendship is so important. I wanted to write a post on being a friend. The bible says "a man of too many friends comes to ruin, but there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother " (Proverbs 18:24). For girls, this can be hard. Jealously and competitiveness drive us but once you understand that God's love is a reflection of friendship, it becomes easy. God expects us to love the people we have been fortunate to know. Jesus spent all of his time loving people. Jesus was a friend. He ate with people, talked with people (even sometimes late into the night), and got to know people from different backgrounds. Jesus would advise his friends when they had problems or issues. The Bible says "Oil and perfume make the heart glad, so a man's counsel is sweet to his friend (Proverbs 27:9). I can say for me that is the essential element of friendship, the counsel of friends. Someone saying "it's going to be okay, Megan;" or "you should try and do this instead." I'm usually the "advice giver" because I'll give you the cold, hard, truth. Good or bad, I'll tell you how it is, just ask my law school friends. Sorry I am not sorry. When being a friend, it's hard to want to be the advice giver but sometimes all people need is the listening ear of a friend.
Loving other people is probably one of the greatest rewards. I can't tell you how proud I am to see my friends have babies, get married, graduate, get the job, or buy a home. I'm just as excited and thrilled. I truly believe that it is part of the reward of being someone's friend. Seeing them grow and change while being apart of the good and bad times they went through. I pray for my friends on a regular basis and I think we should. God brought them into your life for a reason so why not lift them up in prayer? It's the best thing you could do for them. I ask my friends to pray for me all the time. My bottom line is simple...I challenge you this week to pray for your friends and their needs. I challenge you to send a positive encouragement to a friend or buy them a coffee or lunch. It's the little things that mean the most to people. Thank you to every single one of my friends. I appreciate all you do. I can't wait to celebrate with some of you this weekend!
